What Are Sight Hounds?

Sighthounds, like this Borzoi*, need a big course because of their speed and long stride. Sighthounds include Greyhounds, Italian Greyhounds, Azawakhs, Borzois, Afghans, Deerhounds, Wolfhounds, Ibizans, Basenjis, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Pharaoh Hounds, Whippets, and Salukis, among others.

Sighthounds have been developed over centuries and have highly stylized bodies and are especially adept at coursing because of their long legs, deep chests, elongated heads and the placement of their eyes.

New!! There are many ways to get a Coursing title for Sighthounds, but beginning in April 2008, we are bringing title events for ALL BREEDS to Luratics! If you're interested in having your dog run for titles, check out our Calendar. All dogs of all breeds and mixtures are eligible. The official rules and regulations are on the "Lure Coursing 101" and the "Sprint" pages. We don't have these title events very often, so keep checking the calendar. If you have questions, please email Pat. Bring your champion out to run with us!
